This past year has been crazy for me. I started 2 new jobs, finished a 8- week certification course, started college, got engaged, planned my wedding, published a book, and re-started my blog.
That being said, my writing time has been pushed to the end of my to-do list. I always know when I’ve neglected my creative side when I’m feeling sad or empty- like something is missing. For some people, writing is fun and exciting. Like every time you go to the page, you are discovering new worlds or maybe just simply more about yourself. For me, writing has always been like the on again- off again friend that won’t stop leaving voicemails. You miss the way the person used to laugh. You miss the way their hair curled, soft and messy. You miss all the little things that made them….them, but at the end of the day when you’re listening to the messages over and over, you realize how much it hurts to have them in your life because of the way they made you feel. But no matter what you do, you just can’t let them go.

Most people nowadays have a lot going on which is an understatement to say the least. I’m going to make this quick because your time is precious. Say you’re like me- in college, trying to work 2 jobs while also planning a wedding. Alright. It’s Thursday night- which is one of 2 nights off. Not to mention you’re probably working weekends, too. (Sigh) Well, you’re just trying to relax, maybe read a couple blog posts when BAM- you see something like, for example, the title above. Everywhere you look, someone is trying to guilt trip you into reading more! Wow, some people….. cough cough Tai Lopez cough cough
I can promise you that as a like-minded individual I understand sometimes you prefer to watch Breaking Bad instead of read A BOOK. Not just one chapter either, but an entire book in one day? Here me out. I’m definitely not a scholar or Beauty from Beauty and The Beast….But most days I surprise myself and read a whole book…sometimes more. How exactly?
Here are some cut to the chase ways to read a book a day…the right way.

Ok, I’m going to guess that there are 3 types of people reading this right now.
The 1st type is saying 1 journal every month? Are you kidding I could do that in my sleep!
The 2nd type is saying are you kidding? Fill 1 journal EVERY month? Do you even have a life??
The 3rd type is saying what’s the point of journaling at all when I could be working on something actually publishable?

Hiya! Since I was a kiddo, I’ve written stories and such, but never poetry. I was told at a young age by a ‘professional author’ that real writers didn’t write poetry. I’m not going to lie…. hearing that definitely stuck with me for about a decade. When I moved from my childhood home in Ohio to a brand new home in South Carolina, I decided my creative life had too many rules. It wasn’t fun to write anymore, you know? So, in 2016 I started a journey of writing a poem every week for a year. Here are 10 things I learned from doing just that.

You can now order my book of poetry, Numb and Undone, now on amazon in Kindle and paperback! 😀
Numb and Undone is a book of poetry about a girl who ran away, fell in love, and lost herself.
Your skin tastes of lilacs and little ladybug feet
And the way your hair
Grows curly and full
Like a forest
Makes me wonder if you were born
Sprouted as a field of flowers
For me to run to
When I’ve forgotten
How beautiful it is
